How long does a portrait session last?
A typical portrait session lasts between one and two hours, though it can vary depending on how smoothly it flows. Sometimes, especially where babies and children are involved, we may need to take a couple of breaks in between photos, so allowing around two hours is a safe bet.
Where will the session take place?
Most of my sessions take place outdoors, although often newborn photos will take place in your home. The location choice is ultimately yours, although I have plenty of suggestions if you need them. Places like the woods, parks, the beach, overgrown fields are great places to shoot natural portraits. If you want something a bit more creative, like a city with lots of graffiti, that works too!
What shall we wear?
Something simple is best. Something that makes you feel good and goes well with the location. Try and stay clear of clothes with big logos and think about whether it’s something that will still look good in years to come, as your pictures will last forever!
What time is best for a portrait session?
If shooting outdoors, the best times are when the sun is lower in the sky and not too harsh. This means earlier in the morning or later in the evening. If you’re having a session at home, then the best time would be whenever the most light floods through the window in the room you’d like to use.
What if it’s not sunny?
Different weathers can create interesting photos and actually, grey/cloudy skies can be the best shooting conditions as it makes the light nice and soft. Rain can also be fun, as long as you like splashing around in puddles and having fun outdoors. If the weather is really bad however, we can rearrange for a day with better weather.
How do I book a portrait session?
Just get in touch and we can discuss the when and where. I’ll also send you a booking form. A 50% non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your session and the rest of the balance is due on or before the day of the session.
